Options for Buying Club Members:

Meat CSA: Make a commitment of $300 for the entire year to be used as credit toward all of our meat offerings. You can use your credit anytime throughout the year. Your orders can be picked up at buying club locations, at farmers markets or at the ranch on ranch days. Check below for an example of a meat CSA letter that went out in July 2012 to see an example of the offerings. This changes seasonally, but we always have something throughout the year!

Other Farm Subscriptions: Once you make a commitment to the meat CSA or herdshare you will also have access to all of the other farm subscriptions to be picked up at the same location. Check the list here of participating farms!

Buying Club Members can pick up in San Gregorio, Woodside, Pescadero, Half Moon Bay or San Mateo weekly or if you order $100 or more we will deliver to your door (San Mateo County only). Happy July Buying Club Members!

Our family just got away for the first time in 4 years to visit family in Oregon and we feel rejuvenated to hit the ground running again as we are in the peak of our season. We got some perspective visiting areas in Oregon where there are more people with a handful of cows and pigs in their front yard than those with lawns. It is common place for people to raise their own meat, grow gardens, milk cows and share with their neighbors. I was envious to hear that there are so many option for USDA slaughter houses and butchers within a 30 min, drive of Bend, Oregon, when in the Bay Area we have to travel 2 hours and there are very few choices.  Our freedom to grow and share food is something I want to celebrate on interdependence day tomorrow!

We have some exciting offerings for herdshare/meat CSA members only. As the grass is reaching the highest point in nutrition and the animals are taking in all of the hard work the plants have gone through in the last few month of the growth spurt we are reaping the harvest to spread the yummy abundance from the land!

Meat CSA
Remember we are transitioning to a meat CSA, where we need an upfront commitment of $300 for the year. Please place your order this month toward your $300 deposit. I will be transitioning the list to meat CSA members only at the end of July. Whole or half pork and lamb can count towards your $300 commitment, but beef shares that have already been pre-ordered do not, at least not this year.

Whole and Half Lamb and Pork
We are now offering whole and halves of pork and lamb. Lamb will be available by the whole or half for a couple months as we are starting to grass-finish them for individual cuts. We are selling them by the hang-weight now. For Pork it is $5 per lb hang weight and for lamb it is $6.50 per lb hang weight. Lambs can be anywhere from 30-50 lbs hang weight. Pork can weigh anywhere from 150 - 225 lbs hang weight. It is about a 1/3 loss from live weight to hang weight, so a 300 lb live weight hog will weigh about 200 lbs hang weight. You can then take it home and process it yourself, or we will bring the carcass to Los Gatos meats, in Los Gatos for you and they will custom cut it to your specifications. They are the only butcher on the Peninsula that will do nitrate-free sausage and bacon that I have found. You pay the butcher in addition to paying us for the meat. They are expensive for lamb, so the best bet for lamb is to do it yourself.
